The Partners in the Business:
Mario DelMonte -- Mario has been a part of Kress Wine since 1977. Mario managed the store for the previous owners and he has owned the store since 2001. Mario has seen the store evolve from the 'Regulated Liquor Store' days through to the present atmosphere where the influence has changed to 'Fine Wine and Spirits.' During his early years at Kress, Mario became the resident wine expert for the store and he began to taste, buy and recommend all of the wines that have made their way to the store’s shelves. Today, although the majority of the business is wine, Mario still keeps an eye out for all new products, listens to customer requests and tries to pack the store with as much as physically possible -- including special spirits and cordials, craft beers, sparkling/imported water, wine crackers/stemware/accessories, etc.
Ann Cuneo DelMonte -- Ann came on board at Kress Wine as a data entry clerk in 1997. She played a major role in the decision to purchase the business in 2001. There are many outsiders (and some insiders) that believe Ann actually runs the business -- great men notwithstanding. Currently Ann's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, bookkeeping, marketing, advertising and public relations. Ann is also the staff nurse and the official HMO (Head Mannequin Outfitter). She is an active member in the Haddonfield Business and Professional Association and is instrumental in communicating and planning events with local businesses.
George Cuneo – Of the partners, George has the least experience in the wine business, but he brings over twenty years of experience from relatively related fields: Engineering and Manufacturing. A graduate of Drexel University (B. S. Ch. E. 1980), George began an engineering career at a large A/E firm, and then moved to manufacturing -- first as an engineer, then as a manager -- where his interests began to change to business. He was happy to join the Kress Wine 'family' shortly after 9/11/01 when everyone's priorities changed. George achieved a long-time goal by obtaining his M. B. A. Degree in 2004 from Rowan University with Beta Gamma Sigma honors. His priorities now include: Family, Friends and Kress Wine Customers.
Kress Wine is committed to providing our customers with the finest products and the best combination of quality, taste and value. We have traveled recently to California, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal to learn about the latest products available to bring to our store in New Jersey. A member of the Kress Wine family attends ‘Monthly Mega-Tasting Meetings’ with our buying group to find new products from small producers and cult winemakers -- and we taste products brought into our store by our distributors to keep up with the mainstream offerings. The family at Kress Wine does all of this for our customers, saying: “We taste thousands of products a year so you don’t have to!”
Our biggest wine tasting event of the year is the Annual Fall Wine Classic which benefits Virtua Hospital Foundation.
It is held at the Barry Brown Education center at Virtua’s facility in Voorhees, NJ.
Dozens of suppliers pour hundreds of wines to be sampled with tables and tables of food prepared by South Jersey Hot Chefs member restaurants.
In-store wine samplings are normally conducted on weekends; however e-mail list customers get notice of special events such as this special sampling to coincide with an in-store visit from Robert Pecota from Pecota Winery. Robert met, answered questions and chatted with customers in a very informal and personal setting.
